WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

Join the Neutron Flight Safety Systems team at Rocket Lab, where we are developing Neutron, a new, medium-lift, reusable launch vehicle. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining safety-critical software for Neutron’s autonomous Flight Termination System (FTS). You will ensure compliance with certification standards, interface with navigation systems, and develop tools and services to support all phases of development, testing, simulation, and operations. Your expertise will be vital in actively monitoring flight progress and ensuring safety criteria are met to prevent potential termination scenarios.

Additionally, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and reviewing comprehensive software development plans, coding standards, and requirements for flight safety systems software. You will design and document software architecture, create flight code, develop unit tests, and ensure traceability between software requirements, design, implementation, and verification activities. Your role extends to supporting build, deployment, system testing, simulation, data analysis, and operations by developing support code. Moreover, you will coordinate and participate in reviews and testing, as well as support the creation of system user documentation and operational procedures.

YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or demonstrated equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ software development experience.
  • Experience with safety-critical software systems and/or software development in a regulated environment.
  • Proficiency in embedded systems development with C++.
  • Experience with deployment and CI tooling.
  • Proficiency in Git and working with issue trackers.

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience with space launch vehicle flight safety systems, e.g. RCC-319.
  • Experience with requirements-driven software design.
  • Experience with Linux development environments.
  • Experience with build tools (e.g. cmake, Bazel).
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and documenting compliance with engineering standards.

If the above sounds like you, apply now!

WHAT TO EXPECT

We’re on a mission to unlock the potential of space to improve life on Earth, but that’s not an easy task. It takes hard work, determination, relentless innovation, teamwork, grit, and an unwavering commitment to achieving what others often deem impossible. Our people out-think, out-work and out-pace. We pride ourselves on having each other’s backs, checking our egos at the door, and rolling up our sleeves on all tasks big and small. We thrive under pressure, work to tight deadlines, and our focus is always on how we can deliver, rather than dwelling on the challenges that stand in the way.
